Student-Directed Shakespeare Festival
"If you love to act or if you've ever wanted to give acting a try, here's your chance! The Student-Directed Shakespeare Festival is open to ALL students in grades 9-12, and everyone who wants to act is guaranteed a part! After student directors (veteran troupe members) select their scenes for this year, you'll have a chance to hear about the different plays being sampled, and you'll sign up to be a part of one of the mini-troupes.After an initial meeting in your small acting company, your directors will cast the parts and help you study, design, and rehearse."

This is really fun! Last year, the performance was in late November. There will probably be announcements near the beginning of the school year.

Page-to-Stage (class)
[Taken from course selection guide]: "Shakespeare: Page to Stage is a course designed for students who have demonstrated a sincere interest in Shakespeare and in performance and who have been successful in their English classes. In this course students will have the opportunity to develop their thinking skills, to develop their performance skills, and to study several texts in depth through the use of literary criticism, film, writing, performance, attendance at professional performances, and participation in several festivals/outreach programs. The students will have access to lectures and workshops with professors and artists who are experts in the areas of Shakespeare, performance, film, speech, art, and research. This course will further develop the students’ thinking skills through a variety of activities such as developing promptbooks, acting, directing, collaborating on production design, working as a team, and providing leadership for the Shakespeare Troupe." Contact Ms. Biondo-Hench ([email protected]) if you have any questions; the course is for grades 10-12.

Coffeehouse
-The coffeehouse is hosted 3 times a year; auditions are mandatory if you want to perform. People play music (often original) and read poetry (sometimes original, as well). We have some great musicians here! The "cofficers" (coffeehouse officers) are really good about making sure all the details are on the morning announcements, just keep an open ear.
CHS musical
-The performance takes place in late February, and it is directed by Mr. Schade ([email protected]), the choir director. A lot of the cast is made up of people who are involved in the music classes, but all are welcome! There are usually announcements for auditions in late fall or early winter.
